Braided Lines Shawl Pattern

You will need:

Yarn - I used two strands of dk, and used different colors of dk to create a faded effect. You can do the same or use some other chunky but smooth yarn.

Hook - for best results, use a 7-8mm hook

Recommended: stitch markers, scissors

You will need to know:

ch - chain

st - stitch

slst - slip stitch

sc - single stitch

dc - double crochet stitch (US), treble crochet stitch (UK)

dtr - double treble crochet stitch (US), triple treble crochet stitch (UK)




NOTICE:


  • The loops of chains will count as individual stitches in the tallies for the rows.
  • Whenever a dc is the first st of a row, replace is with sc+ch2
  • Whenever a dtr is the first stitch of a row, replace it with slst+ch5
  • Always place new stitches in the next available stitch of the previous row, unless told otherwise.
  • Do not place stitches into any chain spaces unless told otherwise.

DO NOT break the yarn.









THE CHAINS

Now it is time to stitch together the columns of chains that you have made. To do this, start at the bottom chain of the column. Put the hook under the chain and rotate 360 degrees. This way, the chain has now become a loop. Use your hook to pull the next chain up through this loop. Then pull the next chain through the loop. Keep going until you reach the very top of the chain column. Use a stitch marker to keep the structure from unravelling. Repeat this for all the chain columns.

DO NOT break the yarn. Instead, move on to the border. To make the border, utilize the chain space behind the first/last stitches of the previous rows.

Ch5, dtr into the first st of previous row (sideways sc), ch2, [3dtrtog, ch2] per sideways dc of the previous row; [3dtr, ch3, 3dtr, ch2 into the initial ring from step 1]; [3dtrtog, ch2] sideways dc of the previous row. FINISHING TOUCHES

Gently wash the shawl with warm water and give it a few careful tugs. This will help all the stitches fall into their places.
